U. M. Women
The first meeting of the new year was on Tuesday, January 17. A “Call to Prayer and Self Denial” program was presented by Lois Howe following the business meeting. Crackers, dip and water was served by Lois following the program. The collection taken was sent to the District Office.
On January 10 Marilyn Tysen made ham and bean soup with the frozen ham bone left over from the Christmas Feast. Also served was grape salad, corn muffins, angel food cake and sherbet. This was a nice meal following our first work day of 2012.
Work days in February will be the 7th, 14th and 28th.
The General Meeting and noon dinner will be held on February 21 with devotions by Dorothy Michalak and the program by Melinda Roeske. Janet Bradley, Sylvia Gray, Sandi Haggerty and Vicki Mathis are in charge of the dinner.
Thanks to several ladies who have volunteered to help in the kitchen for funeral dinners. We can use more help to wash dishes and clean up. It takes about 15 people to provide food for a funeral dinner. If you would like to be added to our list of volunteers talk to Ruth Babiak or Dorothy Michalak.
We are also looking for people to sew rug rags. The rags are all cut into strips just waiting to be sewn. Contact Judi VanMeerten if you would like some instructions.
We are beginning to collect items for the gift baskets for the November bazaar. Just leave new or gently used contributions in the kitchen or work room (closet in the southwest corner of the Fellowship Hall). Large baskets are needed, too.
We have purchased about $150 worth of plastic bins to replace the paper bags and boxes used in the work closet. The bazaar items, rug rags, rugs, fabric, Christmas decorations, left-over baskets, etc. are stored in this closet, and it does look much better and is less of a fire trap.
Contact Ruth Babiak if you would like information on any aspect of the United Methodist Women. We get a lot done on work days, and on meeting day once a month we have a business meeting, program and dinner. The dinner costs $2.00, and the fun and fellowship are free! Hope to see you.
